Obituary

Gloria Brigman Holm went to her heavenly home on December 31, 2009. Gloria was a native of Pensacola, FL, born to James McGlaun Brigman and Ruth Villar Brigman in 1925 in a house on East LaRua Street. She was a 7th generation Pensacolian and was able to trace her ancestors back to some of the early Spanish settlers in Pensacola. She was preceded in death by her parents James McGlaun Brigman and Ruth Villar Brigman; and her husband Reinhardt Holm, former mayor of Pensacola. She attended N.B. Cook, Agnes McReynolds, A.V. Clubbs Junior High School and Pensacola High School. She sang professionally in New York and California under the stage name of Gloria Villar. She studied voice under Maestro Andres de Segurola in New York. She was a finalist in the Atwater Kent Auditions in Hollywood, CA. She made several appearances in the famed Hollywood Bowl and Earl Carrolls Theater Restaurant, and made appearances on many top network musical radio and television programs throughout the US and Canada, including the "The Arthur Godfrey Show" and "The Kate Smith Show". She received two scholarships to the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music where she studied with Mr. Robert Powell. After she married she had a television show, on WEAR Channel 3 in Pensacola. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir for many years. She married Raymond Reinhardt Holm on December 13, 1952 and they had four children. Gloria leaves behind to cherish her wonderful memory her four children and their spouses, sons: John and Sue Holm, David and Nicki Holm, daughters: Kelly and Jeff Bird and Kristin and Rick Schulz. She was affectionately known to her grandchildren and great grandchildren as "DoDo". Grandchildren, Jesaca (Holm) and Travis Wilson, Jaime (Holm) and Brad Conti, Kyle Masters; Heather Goltermann, Jared Holm; Maggie, William, George and Charles Bird; and Joshua and Mallory Schulz. Great Grandchildren, Emma, Grace and Avery Wilson and Kylie Masters. Sister-in-laws, Helen Burpee, Pensacola, FL, Hilda Cyphers, Atlanta, GA and Annie Ruth Eggert, Tyler, MN. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be missed by her faithful canine companion Furby. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00pm Monday, January 4, 2010 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am, Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with Pastor Robert Rupp officiating. Burial will follow at Bayview Memorial Park. The family would like to thank her wonderful caregivers and friends Linda (Best Friend), Yvette and Lula. We would also like to thank the staff at the Joyce Goldenberg Hospice Residence, Dr. Barbara French and Dr. John Retzloff, for their compassionate care. Active Pallbearers will be Bob Voyles, Gary Huston, Travis Wilson, Brad Conti, Joshua Schulz, and William Bird. Flowers are accepted or memorials can be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church Choir, 24 W. Wright St., Pensacola, FL 32501. HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.
