Gwendolyn "Ben" Short Waters, 97, of Pensacola, FL passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014. Gwendolyn Waters, better known as Ben, lived a full and loving life, as daughter, wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother. Ben was born in Florala, AL on February 19, 1917 to Elvin and Maude Davis Short. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Ben was an avid baker and a gracious southern cook with a gourmet flair, welcoming all who knew her with sumptuous meals and treats. She had a special gift for warm, caring, and interesting conversation, engaging her friends and family in memorable visits in her home. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Andrew Stillman Waters; her brothers, Elvin Short and Thomas Short; as well as a sister, Geraldine Miller. Survivors include her loving children, Maudie Jo Waters Beck of St. Louis, MO and William "Bill" Elvin Waters (Joy) of Pensacola, FL; grandchildren, Andrea Jo Beck, Olivia "Livvy" Jernigan (Jeremy) both of Pensacola, FL, Sarah Spencer (Stephen) of Houston, TX and Emily Gwendolyn Waters, of Pensacola, FL and; as well as 3 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Dr. Bob Wilson, J.P. Minchew, Jerald Miller, George Forsberg, Charles Griffin and Dr. Jack Lurton. Visitation will be held 1:00pm until the Funeral Service to begin at 2:00pm Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at First Baptist Church, Pleitz Chapel with Dr. Barry Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.
