IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harold W.
Brown
October 3, 1924 – November 26, 2019
Harold W. Brown, 95, died peacefully on November 26, 2019.
Harold was a member of the 'greatest generation'. He, along with many boys of his senior class, enlisted in the US Navy the day following Pearl Harbor. He was sent to Pensacola for flight training, earning his wings the week before he turned nineteen, as a Petty Officer 1/C. He went on to a sterling Naval career, chosen by three successive Chiefs of Naval Operations to be their personal pilot. He retired with over 16,000 flight hours.
Harold's second career was as Clerk of Court for Hernando County, FL. He was appointed by Governor Reuben Askew to fulfill an unexpired term, serving in that capacity for sixteen years. He was unopposed in each election cycle until his retirement.
Harold is survived by a brother, Solon Brown (Phyllis) of Inverness, FL; two sons, Jack (Ann) of Pensacola and Jerry (Susan) of Rock Hill, SC; 10 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Gladys Brown, of Spring Lake, FL and his most treasured wife, Myrtle Lancaster Brown of Aurora, NC.
The ashes of Harold and Myrtle will be interred together in Spring Lake in April of next year. There will be no local service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Pensacola's Waterfront Rescue Mission.
