IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harriet
Krippes
February 13, 1931 – April 22, 2018
Harriet Krippes was born in Savannah, GA, on February 13, 1931 and passed away in Pensacola, FL on Sunday, April 22, 2018, at the age of 87.
Always a curious naturalist, she began collecting and identifying seashells tossed ashore on Tybee Island where she spent many happy summers at the family cottage on the beach. Later, shell collecting grew to include Victorian shell boxes and other shell-inspired artwork. She shared her knowledge by giving talks to community groups.
An award-winning writer and producer of television commercials, she was a partner at Dodson, Craddock and Born advertising until her retirement at age 73. She always said she was having too much fun to retire, but knew when it was time. Always an avid reader, she continued to read and study birds and native plants. But a rare ocular melanoma was beginning to steal her vision and ultimately her life after 9 successful years of treatment.
The southern bridge club tradition is alive and well in Pensacola. Harriet's group continued to meet monthly for love and laughter and even a few hands. Good luck and bad were dealt with together for over 50 years.
Not many know that Harriet sang and danced in musicals at the Savannah Playhouse even before she graduated from Northwestern's renowned Speech School. In truth, she would rather talk about the voices of her grandchildren, Caroline and Dominic, than relieve dusty memories. She was, however, quick to mention that Northwestern was where she met Jim Krippes, her husband of 66 years.
She is survived her husband, Jim Krippes; daughter, Kate Johnson; son, Karl Krippes; nephew, Mark Brown; and grandchildren, Dominic and Caroline Johnson, Max Klug, and Jessie and Eddie Krippes.
