IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harris
Reynolds
June 4, 1949 – November 19, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward Harris Reynolds III, who left us peacefully on, Tuesday, November 19, 2024, surrounded by family. He was a loving father, grandfather and a friend to many.
Born on June 4, 1949, he grew up in Notasulga, AL on the family farm, where he raised beagle hounds and enjoyed listening to them running rabbits while sitting on the back of his 1949 Ford pickup and drinking bottled Coke. He attended Macon Academy High School, Marion Military Academy, a graduate of Auburn University and a member of Sigma Nu fraternity.
While at Auburn University, he met his wife, Patty. They were married in 1973 and lived in Birmingham for four years before moving to Gulf Breeze for 31 years and eventually to Pensacola, FL.
He began his 40-year banking profession with Central Bank in Birmingham, AL. He moved to Gulf Breeze, FL in 1977 to work for Century National Bank of Pensacola, which merged with SunBank. He then moved to Barnett Bank, later NationsBank, and then to Whitney Bank through its merger with Hancock Bank. He held prominent positions throughout his career as City President, Executive Vice President and Senior Loan Officer, Regional Credit Loan Officer, ending his banking career with Hancock Whitney Bank and retiring in 2014.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Pensacola and the Baylen Street Social Club. He was a past member of the local organizations of Rebellaires, Order of Tristan and was the Fiesta Children's Chaperon for two years. He was a past board member of many local boards including McGuire's IPC Charter Member, Covenant Hospice, Downtown Improvement Board, ARC, Children's Home Society, Girl Scouts of NW Florida, Spectrum Systems, St. Joseph's Clinic, and Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church.
He fell in love with offshore fishing and for the next 20 years, he chased billfish in the Gulf of Mexico, St Thomas and Mexico. His boat, Pacifier, was named the Pensacola Big Game Fishing Club 1980 Top Boat and was the 1980 Tag and Release tournament winner, both of which he was very proud of.
He enjoyed and loved his many hunting friends and various hunting clubs. He especially loved hunting turkeys. He was proud of achieving the Grand Slam of wild turkeys with the Eastern, Rio Grande, Merriam's and Osceola (Florida).
He and his wife Patty loved to travel and were able to go to many foreign countries as well as places around the United States. One of their most memorable trips was fly fishing in Alaska for salmon and taking a float plane to Brooks Falls to watch brown bears in their habitat.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sarah Elizabeth Avant and Edward Harris Reynolds, Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Patricia Anne Sharp Reynolds; their daughter, Jennifer Leigh Jenkins (Scott); three grandchildren Max, Brody, and Anne Harris of Tallahassee; his sister, Jeanne Reynolds McKenzie (David) of Auburn, AL; brothers-in-laws, John David Sharp (Jane) of Big Canoe, GA and James Clay Sharp (Jane) of Birmingham, AL and their extended families.
He frequently said he was "a legend in his own mind". And now he will forever live on in ours. He was so very loved. He will be greatly missed.
