Obituary

Harry passed away on August 17, 2022, in Pensacola, FL at the age of 81. He was born on October 19, 1940, to Rear Admiral Magruder Hill Tuttle and Dorothy Courtney Tuttle in Honolulu, HI. They were all living on Ford Island during the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

After graduating from high school and spending a year at Ventura Jr. College in Ventura, CA, Harry enlisted in the Army serving from 1960 to 1966 as a helicopter pilot. During his years of service, he became a Chief Warrant Officer Helicopter Pilot attached to the Eighth Army in Korea and volunteered for duty in Vietnam.

Harry was a part of the Ia Drang Valley Operation in 1965, which was led by then Lieutenant Colonel Hal Moore (later Lieutenant General). This operation was turned into the book and movie "We Were Soldiers." Harry was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross along with 19 Air Medals during his time in the Army.

Harry studied Business Administration at Troy State University. He later obtained a BS in Personnel Management from the University of West Florida in Pensacola, FL.

Harry continued to fly after he left the Army. He served as an instructor pilot at Fort Rucker, AL and in the Army National Guard in Meridian, MS. He flew until age 70, working as an offshore pilot for the oil industry.

Harry's love of flying was only surpassed by his love of God, his family, his country, and service to others. He served in the Pensacola Rotary for several years. He was married to Marilyn Johnson Tuttle for over 30 years. He was a devoted father and grandfather to Christina, son-in-law, Chris, and his granddaughters, Aurora, and Ellyana.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Magruder Hill Tuttle & Dorothy Courtney Tuttle; his brother, Robert Ervin Tuttle; and sister, Courtney Tuttle Scalcucci.

He is survived by his daughter Christina Ann Tuttle Cazalet (Christopher); his granddaughters, Aurora Lynn Cazalet & Ellyana Joy Cazalet of Pace, FL; his sister, Jane Tuttle Hamm, of Hendersonville, TN; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to thank Bobbi Wood for the support and devotion she and Harry shared during the last few years of his life. She brought him much love and happiness.

Thanks also to Hillcrest Baptist Church and to many members for their friendship and care to Harry and the family. Harry was a devoted member and loved his church family, participating in the choir, men's Bible studies and service projects. Thanks be to God!
