Obituary

Heather passed away on May 30, 2015 at age 45 after a short battle with a particularly virulent strain of cancer. There is much sadness with her passing. Heather was loved by many for she loved many. She epitomizes the word kindness. Heather made all who came in contact with her feel better. It was normal for her customers at the Bodacious Olive to comment that they came into the store specifically to see Heather as she always gave them a lift in their spirits. When word of her illness reached people, their first reaction was one of heartache. Heartache for her, her loving family and all those who called her a friend, of which there are many. However, Heather would not want heartache, for she never wanted others to be sad. Heather, rather fittingly, loved Disney World. This is because, in many ways, Heather created that Magic Kingdom for others, that happiest place on earth. Much like Cinderella, Heather was a hard worker, completing any task before her with enthusiasm and dedication. Like Snow White, everyone felt joy and warmth in her presence. Like Sleeping Beauty, Heather loved people and animals, was optimistic and fun with a deep sense of loyalty to her family and friends. Most people go through life only seeing people like Heather in the movies of reading about them in books. When meeting Heather, one met the real deal. To all who met Heather on her journey in life, while there is sadness, there is gratitude in knowing such beautiful person both inside and out. Heather's hope is that all people will treat others with kindness. Heather was also very much a dog person, loving just about any dog she came into contact with, big or small. Heather owned one dog, a shih tzu named Belle, who she treated like her second child. She shared many traits with her beloved dogs: loyalty, bravery, and unconditional love for the people she held dearest to her heart. Heather was a wonderful wife to Mark and a role model mother to their daughter, Megan, who survive her as well as her mother, Ann Albino; father, Lonnie Gilmore and his wife Pam; mother in-law, Patricia Van Dresar; brother in-law, Robert Van Dresar and his wife Marylyn, sister in-law, Tamara Spencer; brother, Lonnie Glenn Gilmore and his wife Kara; aunts and uncles, Carolyn and John Gehl and Nancy and Steve Buck as well as numerous cousins. Heather was a fifth generation Pensacolian, a graduate of Gulf Breeze High School and a manager of the Bodacious Olive. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, June 5, 2015 at 11:00am at St. Ann Catholic Church in Gulf Breeze. The family will receive friends in the Parish Hall after the service. A private graveside service will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery at a later date. The family wishes to thank the physicians and staff at Sacred Heart Hospital for the care shown Heather during her several stays over the past few months. We also offer a special thanks to Quint and Rishy Studer for the kindness and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Foundation.
