Obituary

Helen Mary Hefkey, 85, of Pensacola, FL passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2012. Helen was born Elena Maria Scarselletta in Glens Falls, NY. Her parents, Mario Scarselletta, Sr. and Isabelle Decarolis Scarselletta were immigrants from Italy. Elena was the 5th of 11 children. She attended St. Marys School until she moved to Annapolis, MD in 1957 and met her husband, Bill who was stationed there. They married in 1959 and she became Helen Mary. During Bills 27 years in the Navy they lived in California, Hawaii and Okinawa. She worked for many years in Navy Exchanges on their duty bases. They moved to Pensacola in 1975 and Bill retired in 1978. Helen was known as a great cook and she loved life! She was active in her TOPPS Club (#237.) She is preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and one sister. Survivors include her husband, William Bill Hefkey of Pensacola; daughter, Theresa (David) Hamby of Mobile; grandchildren, Sarah, Elizabeth, Ashley, Clarke and Laura Hamby of Mobile; brother, Joe Scarselletta of PA; sister, Isabelle Griffin of MD; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Wojick, Marie, Anne and Betty Scarselletta; god-son, James (Liz) Griffin as well as many special nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 9:00am until the Funeral Service to begin at 10:00am Friday June 1, 2012 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Fr. Michael Nixon officiating. Burial will follow at 11:00am at Barrancas National Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be David Hamby, Jr., Joe Scarselletta, James Griffin, Gus Spurigo, Randy Pierce and Larry Johns. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Emerald Coast Hospice, 1555 N. Palafox, Pensacola, FL 32501. The family would like to thank Helens best friend and second daughter Mary Beth Spurigo for her constant presence and devotion. All of the staff at Bayside Manor and especially the 1st floor nursing staff, who were compassionate and a comfort to her and her family. Also the hospice staff at Emerald Coast Hospice, especially Theresa and Sharon for their care and support. HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.
