Helen James Mathis, 94, of Pensacola, FL passed away Thursday, June 4, 2015. Helen was born on January 2, 1921 in Pensacola, FL. She worked and retired as a Real Estate Broker. She enjoyed art and arranging flowers she was even an International Flower Show Judge. Helen was involved in several civic and social clubs including, the Garden Club, Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the Revolution, and had been a member of the Maids of Luna. She also enjoyed events with the Krewe of Lafitte. She is preceded in death by her parents, Chancey R. and Bessie W. James; sister, Mary Barrow; brother-in-law, Dr. Louis R. Barrow; as well as her husband, Ray H. Mathis. Survivors include her loving sons, Stephen F. Holladay (Mary) and Bruce J. Holladay (Robbye); grandsons, Stephen J. Holladay, Bruce J. Holladay, Jr., Adam A. Holladay and Ryan F. Holladay; granddaughters, Melissa A. Diaco and Lindsay H. Quina; great-grandchildren, Frazier Floyd Holladay, Garrett Hudson Holladay, Joey Peter Diaco and Lilly Ann Diaco; one niece, Cherie McGhee; as well as one nephew, Craig Barrow. Visitation will be held 10:30am until the Funeral Service to begin at 11:30am Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Ken Griffin officiating. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. The family would like to thank the management and staff of the Santa Rosa Health and Rehabilitation facility in Milton, FL for their care and compassion provided to Helen and their family.
