Obituary

Helen M. McDaniel, age 83, of Mary Esther, FL, passed away the morning of January 15, 2021 in Milton FL , with her family at her side. Helen was born February 17, 1937 to the late William and Mary Robertson Sim in Aberdeen Scotland. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Tommy W. McDaniel.

Helen was a loving mother and grandmother, after completing high school Helen went on to become a nanny. Scotland is where she met her husband who was stationed at RAF Kirknewton. She accommodated her husband through numerous moves throughout the U.S., including raising two children while her husband was in Thailand and Vietnam for a year. They ultimately settled at their favorite location, Fort Walton Beach, FL in 1981. In her free time Helen enjoyed sewing pillowcases for kids battling cancer, she loved working in her garden, listening to the bagpipes and was an exceptional quilter. Helen enjoyed meeting new people and spending time chatting and visiting with them.  She bravely fought cancer for over four years, in addition to several other severe illnesses in the latter part of her life.

Those left to cherish her memory include, her daughter, Donna Freeny (Ron), of Milton, FL; her son, Paul McDaniel (Jennifer), of Gambrills, MD; two grandchildren, Emma McDaniel and Ian McDaniel, both of Gambrills, MD.

A service to celebrate Helen's life will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday February 18, 2021 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel ,with Reverend Kenneth Griffin, officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm until 1:00pm prior to the service. A graveside service will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Sacred Heart Cancer Center, Sandy Ridge Nursing Home and Covenant Care Hospice for all of the loving care shown to Helen.
