Master Chief Boatswains Mate Henry "Hank" Strehle, 47, of Pensacola, FL passed away Saturday, April 18, 2009. Master Chief Boatswains Mate Henry "Hank" Strehle joined the Coast Guard in 1981 and has served aboard CGC CHEROKEE as his first assignment upon graduating Recruit Training. He attended Boatswains Mate A school in Yorktown, VA and went on to Coast Guard Station Ocean City, MD. After completing his station tour he returned to the CGC CHEROKEE for a second tour as a member of the Deck department. Master Chief Strehle was then assigned as First Lieutenant on board CGC POINT WARDE home ported in Wrightsville Beach, NC. In 1993, BMCM Strehle was transferred to his second 82-foot Patrol Boat, CGC POINT NOWELL in Padre Island, TX as the Executive Petty Officer. In 1996 BMCM Strehle moved inland to serve aboard CGC SANGAMON, a river tender home ported in East Peoria, IL as the Executive Petty Officer. In 1998 BMCM Strehle assumed the duties as the Officer in Charge of USCG Station Pensacola, FL. In 2002 BMCM Strehle received orders to take possession as the first Officer in Charge of the CGC FLYINGFISH in Lockport, LA. Master Chief Strehle sailed CGC FLYINGFISH to it new homeport in Boston. MA. In 2003 BMCM Strehle assumed afloat Command again of the CGC MAKO home ported in Cape May, NJ. BMCM Strehle continued on to command the CGC HAMMERHEAD in 2006. Master Chief Strehles awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Coast Guard Commendation Medal (3), Coast Guard Achievement Medal (3), Commandants Letter of Commendation (2). As of September l2, 2008 Master Chief Strehle crossed over 20 years Sea time. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Elsa Strehle and father, Lester Daniel. Survivors include his wife, Paula Strehle of Pensacola, FL; two sons, Air Force SSGT Lance Jeans and his wife Crystal at Wichita, KA and Marine LCPL Brian Strehle and his wife Joann at Twenty Nine Palms, California; grandsons, Mick, Gared and William; mother, Ulrike Daniel of Palisade, NE; brother, Charles King and wife Tess of Honolulu, HI; sister, Bettina S. McDonald and husband Ellis of Hope Mills, NC. Memorial Service will be held 1:00pm, Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at the Naval Aviation Memorial Chapel aboard NAS, Pensacola with Chaplain Mark D. Cox officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be BM1 Kevin Stryker, MKC J. P. Michaud, BM2 Michael Thomas, MK2 Tim Millard, FS2 Leroy Anderson, MK3 Lane McPherson, MIC3 Chaston Lassiter, SN Josh Safarik, FN Trevor Victory and SN Ethan Evans. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Assistance Fund, BMCM Henry Strehle, care of Wachovia Bank. HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.
