Hope Barrett Laughlin, Ph.D., age 81, of Gulf Breeze, FL passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2023.

Hope was born in Hartford, CT to the late James F. and Mable Hackbarth Barrett. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Blair R. Laughlin.

Hope was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a dedicated Navy wife, stepping up to take care of the house and children, being alone for months at a time while Blair was out to sea. She was able to work and attend school simultaneously while raising her children. She was strong, intelligent, and dedicated to improving their lives through her perseverance and hard work. She earned her Registered Nursing bachelor's degree and eventually after several years of hard work, her PhD. She taught and trained nurses for over 30 years, later, she retired to be able to spend time traveling with her husband. She was a member of Gulf Breeze Presbyterian Church and enjoyed reading, traveling, and spending time with her family.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Mark Laughlin (Christine), and their children, Lily, Cale, Grace, and Molly; her daughter, Lauri Millward (John), and her children, Jack and Elizabeth; long-time friends, Norm and Maureen Pomeroy and Evelyn and Jim Huffmaster.

A Memorial Visitation will be held from 4:00pm-6:00pm Friday, June 23, 2023, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. She will be privately inurned with her husband at Barrancas National Cemetery.
