Horace M. Miller, 94, passed peacefully at Sacred Heart Hospital, Pensacola, Florida on Thursday, February 17, 2022. Horace was born in Little Rock, MS on Dec. 2, 1927 to Carlton Clearance Miller and Helen Gould Chesney. After high school graduation, Horace enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps which became the Air Force. He served in the Air Force in Korea during the Korean War. After returning home he was in the active Air Force and Army Reserve and retired from the U. S. Army. He began a civilian career at Brookley Air Force Base, Mobile, AL and Eglin AFB, Fort Walton Beach, FL in Technical Services and Aircraft Support. After retiring he began a second career with Martin Marietta Aerospace Co., Orlando, FL and Hughes Aircraft Co., Atlanta, GA before retiring in Pensacola, FL. Horace was a 32 Degree Mason and Shriner for over 50 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Pensacola, FL.
He was preceded in death by his father, Carlton C. Miller; his mother, Helen Gould Chesney Miller; brothers: Carlton Wallace Miller and Charles Meville Miller; and his sister, Erma Gene Miller Rowell Henley. He is survived by his wife, Leslie Cunningham Miller; his son Christian Phillip Rieser, his daughter, Suzan Miller Spence; his son, James Christopher Miller; his son, Carlton William (Mary) Miller; grandchildren: Halley Suzanne Spence, Beecher Carlton Spence, Charlton Philip Spence, Nichole Miller (Lydell) Moreland, Ruby Rieser, Eva Marquette Miller (Luis) Garcia, Matthew Miller, Garrett James Miller, Owen McCoole Miller; 5 great grandchildren: Luis Garcia, Julianna Garcia, Antonio Garcia, Luke Miller, Janea Moreland, Josiah David Lee Porter.
A visitation will be held on Friday, February 25, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, in Pensacola. A committal service will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. aboard Pensacola Naval Air Station with Dr. Barry Howard, officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the US Army. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shriner's Hospitals donorrelations@shrinenet.org or to a charity of your choice.
