July 16, 1948 – June 22, 2024
Howard Allen Taylor, 75, of Navarre, FL, departed peacefully, surrounded by family, to return home to our Lord on Saturday, June 22, 2024.
Howard graduated from Johnson City High School in June of 1966. He was soon drafted into the Army and served in Vietnam as an armorer. After serving in Vietnam, he went back to school and majored in Electrical Engineering. During that time, he met Lorraine (Weston) Taylor. Soon after graduation they married in 1973. His career led him to be a construction superintendent in Jacksonville, FL and then served 30 years as a Structural Superintendent at Hurlburt Field, FL. He loved the men and women he served with and especially liked to mentor young recruits who for many were away from home for the first time. Howard's family was always his first love and priority. He was proud of each of them for their love, how they care, value, and respect others.
Howard was a charter member of Navarre United Methodist Church. He laid tile in the first church building, hung and finished sheet rock, painted, and built the first church sign. He volunteered in the Nursery, Children's classes, Trustees, was a part of the Men's Breakfast and helped with the Youth Group. He loved to worship and make people feel welcome. He also helped with decorations for Vacation Bible School and the Back to School Bash.
He loved to restore cars and renew them into street rods in his spare time. A special moment in his life was meeting Jay Leno at a car show.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and James Taylor; brothers, Jim, Russell, and Frank; as well as his sister, Louise.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lorraine "Weston" Taylor; his daughter, Jennifer Schade (Eric); grandsons, Tyler and Ben Schade, his daughter, Katherine McIntosh (Christopher); granddaughters, Ava and Kylie McIntosh; his sisters, Margaret Taylor and Joyce Hammond (Robert); niece, Jill O'Lone (Gregg); nephew, Timothy Hammond (Jeanne); nieces, Martha Mahoney, and Amy Molligi (Tim) and family; his brothers-in-law, Steven Weston (Laurie), Roger and Kevin Weston.
A Memorial Service will be held 10:30am Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Navarre United Methodist Church with a luncheon following the service. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Navarre United Methodist Church, 9474 Navarre Pkwy., Navarre, FL 32566.
