Howard Jay Tyson, 83, of Pensacola, FL passed away peacefully on Friday, May 8, 2015. He was born in Atlanta, GA to Henry and Annabelle Tyson and moved to Miami, FL at an early age. He graduated from Miami Edison High School, attended the University of Florida and graduated from the University of Miami with a BBA. After college he was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the USAF. He completed pilot training and was stationed in France until his discharge in 1956. Howard joined Eastern Airlines as a pilot and flew for 31½ years until his retirement as Senior Captain on the 757 in 1988. Howard met the love of his life, Marilyn (Sue) Moss in 1963, they were married in 1964. On June 21, 2015 they would have celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary. Howard and Sue have three children and four grandchildren. He enjoyed golf, traveling, maintaining his yard, reading, working out at Real Time Fitness and spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid Florida Gator/Redskins fan and loved watching his teams' play, but come to think about it he had a love for all sports! Howard was a member of the Airline Pilots Association, Retired Eastern Pilots Association, a longtime member of First United Methodist Church and attended St. Luke's United Methodist Church. He was also a long time member of Scenic Hill Country Club and former member of Krewe of LaFitte and Karnival Kavaliers. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, aunt and uncle. Survivors include his wife, Sue; daughter, Jill and her husband Stephen Stone of Los Gatos, CA; son, Kenneth Tyson of Riviera Beach, FL; daughter, Tracey and her husband Rob Fryer of Canton, GA; grandchildren; Ashley and Ryan Fryer of Canton, GA and Barrett and Jase Stone of Los Gatos, CA. The family wishes to thank the doctors; Dr. K. Risola, Dr. Guiliat, Dr. Scott and Dr. Bryan; nurses, Tony, Troy, Joanna and Penelope (Pete) for their kind and compassionate care for Howard and the staff of Covenant Hospice of West Florida Hospital, especially, Kay Falzone, RN, Nicole Gardner, RN, David Williams, LPN and Yumeika Grant, HA. "To fly west, my friend is the one final check we all must take." Howard, you passed your check ride here on earth with flying colors. Tower has approved your request for an unrestricted climb. Your family loves you, you will be missed greatly, but never forgotten. "Until we're together again". A Memorial visitation will be Monday, May 18, 2015 from 4:00-6:00pm at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. A private family Memorial service is planned for a later date.
