IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Hugh Lunciford
Bass
December 16, 1932 – October 25, 2025
Hugh Lunciford Bass, 92 years old, born December 16, 1932, in Pensacola, FL, Hugh passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Hugh graduated from Tate High School and proudly served two years in the U.S. Navy, followed by several years in the Naval Reserve. After his military service, he began a long and dedicated career as a millwright at Champion Paper (formerly St. Regis Paper), where he worked for more than 40 years. It was at St. Regis that Hugh met the love of his life, Yvonne Newton. They shared nearly 63 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in 2023. For over six decades, Hugh and Yvonne were devoted members of St. Mark United Methodist Church, where Hugh faithfully served as an usher. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his family—especially his grandchildren, who lovingly called him "Pappy."
Hugh is preceded in death by, as he would say, his "beautiful" wife, Yvonne; daughter, Belinda; parents, Nelson and Elizabeth Bass; and brothers, Robert and Billy Bass.
He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly McMurray (Doug); grandson, Brandon McMurray (Christa); granddaughter, Ashton McMurray; great-granddaughter, Kendall McMurray; brothers, Edward Bass and James Bass (Tanya); sister, Carol McGaha; sister-in-law, Donnie White; brothers-in-law, John Newton (Charlotte) and Dewayne Newton (Becky); and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. A graveside service will follow at Bayview Memorial Park at 10:30 a.m., officiated by Reverend Dan Baughman.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark United Methodist Church ( https://www.stmarkpensacola.com/giving/ ).
