Ida Wolff Copenhaver, of Pensacola, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2016 in her sleep at The Waterford at Carpenter's Creek after a long illness.
She was a sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Ida was born in New York City to Louise Zanes Wolff and Charles Wolff, III. Her childhood years were spent in New York City, NY, Ontario, Canada, and Elizabethton, TN. She graduated from St. Anne's School in Charlottesville, VA. Ida graduated from Vassar College in 1939. In 1941, she married Lawrence L. Copenhaver (Cope) on July 9 in Johnson City, TN. After WWII, she and Cope lived in Elizabethton, TN, and briefly lived in Alabama before settling in Pensacola, FL. Ida was actively involved in their children's school and other activities. In addition, she was a community and church volunteer. Ida was a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader, served on the Board of the YWCA and other organizations, and participated in United Fund campaigns. Ida and Cope were founding members of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church. They moved to St. Louis, MO, for a year and then to Port St. Joe, FL. She was an active member of St. James' Episcopal Church in Port St. Joe. Her husband, Cope, passed away in 1978, and she moved back to Pensacola in 1984. Ida was a member of Nomads, Pensacola Federation of Gardens Clubs, several book clubs, and bridge clubs. At St. Christopher's Church, she served on the Altar Guild, worked on the annual Christmas Caravan, and was a member of Episcopal Church Women. Ida was a talented seamstress and needle pointer as well as decorator and collector of dollhouse and miniatures.
Ida was preceded in death by husband, Cope; her parents; her sister, Isabel Wolff Field; brother, Charles Wolff, III and grandchild Madeleine Louise McCuean.
She leaves behind her children, Ida Copenhaver Ginter (Jim), Larry Copenhaver (Samantha), and Tavia McCuean (Doug); her grandchildren, Lawrence Copenhaver, Elizabeth Copenhaver Walker, and Anne Torrey McCuean; great-grandchildren, Noah Thomas and Avery Elizabeth Walker, and step-grandchildren, Krystin Boehnke and Alex Boehnke as well as nieces and nephews to cherish her memory.
Memorial Service will begin at 11:00am, Monday. May 23, 2016 at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church with Rev. Susan Sowers officiating. Guests are invited to join the family in a celebration of her life at a reception in the church parish hall after the service. A private family held at Bayview Memorial Park on Saturday, May 21, 2016.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 3200 N 12th Ave., Pensacola, FL 32503 or Emerald Coast Hospice, 1555 N Palafox St., Pensacola, FL 32501.
