Obituary

Ingrid Carlson, 67, of Pensacola, FL., passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2022.

The hospice care community has lost a shining star. Ingrid served the hospice community with Covenant Hospice for the past decade providing comfort for those in their in final days of life and consoling the families left behind.  It was her nature to do so.  She never hesitated to come when she was called by the family and did so without reservation.  It's what she committed herself to do.

Born in Aurora, Colorado on February 27, 1955 to Gilbert Anthony of Kokomo Indiana, and Irmgard Brunner of Olching, West Germany she began life as a normal child of U.S. Air Force military parents.  She traveled around Europe attending schools, both military and civilian learning to speak languages of the communities she was in.

To my good fortune, I met Ingrid during my first tour with the U.S. Air Force in Bitburg Germany in 1973 thanks to her parents being stationed there. She was working a summer job in our orderly room at the 36 th Supply Squadron where I met her after completing high school.  I used to go down to the Orderly Room and get coffee and shoot the breeze with the 1 St Sgt and the Commander.  One thing led to another and the next thing I knew I was eating dinner with her family.  Her mom, Irmgard made the best Chili sauce I'd ever had!  Her dad referred to me as "Wyatt Earp" because he thought my hair and mustache were too long!  We married on February 9, 1974 in the Bitburg Air Base chapel.

Our first assignment together was at Cannon AFB, New Mexico where our daughter Jennifer was born.  We moved around the country to California and Florida before returning to Germany for our 2 nd tour.

Graduating from Metropolitan Community College in Omaha, Nebraska in June 1991 with an Associate's Degree in Nursing she began her career in nursing starting out in Oncology at West Florida Hospital.  She went to work at Northside Hospital in Atlanta when I took a contractor position at the local Air Reserve Base in Marietta, GA.

When we returned to Pensacola after several years, she took a position with Covenant Hospice serving in supervisory positions as well as doing in-home care for patients. Not a big fan of office work, her calling was to interact and provide comfort to those in the final stage of life.

She also served the Escambia County School system in the Take Stock in Children student mentoring program at Tate High School, providing guidance to students interested in the nursing profession.

Ingrid will be missed by all who made her acquaintance. But, no more than her mother, Irmgard Anthony; her sister, Melissa Richards (Phillip), along with their daughter, Angie Richards and son, Tony Richards. Most of all, Ingrid will be missed by her husband, Andrew; daughter, Jennifer Carlson, her daughter, Charlotte Hilton and son, Evan Holland.

A memorial service will be held at 9:30 am on Friday, April 8, 2022 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. A graveside service will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
