Obituary

Master Chief Petty Officer Irving "Irv" English, Jr., USN (Ret.), a man known for his boundless kindness and unwavering dedication to his family and community, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 15, 2025, after a life well lived. Born in Endicott, NY, Irv graduated from Union Endicott High School before embarking on an extraordinary career in the US Navy, where he served as a Cryptologic Technician Communication (CTO) for 30 years, retiring with distinction as a Master Chief Petty Officer.

While stationed in England, Irv met the love of his life, Patricia, and they shared nearly 63 wonderful years together. Their love story was one of love at first sight and endless adventures, as they traveled the world together, creating countless cherished memories.

After his Navy career, Irv continued his life of service, working at Cokesbury United Methodist for 17 years. His impact there was so profound that the Cokesbury atrium was named in his honor upon his retirement. When not working, Irv gave his time generously to others, volunteering with the Optimist Club, United Ministries, Meals on Wheels, Sacred Heart Cancer Center, and as a driver for cancer patients. His commitment to helping others knew no bounds.

Irv devoted his life to his faith and his family. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, always putting others before himself. Irv never met a stranger - his warmth and generosity were legendary, and he would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. His larger-than-life personality and kind spirit earned him the nickname "Big Irv," and he truly was one of a kind.

Irv is preceded in death by his parents, Marguerite and Irving English, Sr.; his sister, Connie Bobbitt; and his sister-in-law, Terry English.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia English; his children, Ashley English and Mark English; his brother, Lynn English; his sister, Jackie Davies; and numerous nieces, nephews, and chosen grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were blessed to know and love him.

A Celebration of Irv's Life is planned for Sunday, March 23, 2025, with visitation beginning at 3:00pm and the memorial service at 4:00pm at Cokesbury United Methodist Church, with Rev. Stuart Worth and Rev. Ashley Meyer serving as officiants. A committal service with full military honors will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery, at a later date.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the living angels of VITAS Hospice and the 3rd floor nurses and staff at The Veranda of Pensacola for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Irv's honor to United Ministries of Pensacola, PO Box 9255, Pensacola, FL 32513.

Irv's legacy of kindness, service, and love will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He leaves behind a world that is better because he was in it.
