IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Isabel
Summerlin
March 3, 1933 – November 5, 2025
Mary "Isabel" Summerlin, 92, of Pensacola, FL was born in Gloucester, MA on March 3, 1933, and died at home with her family on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.
Isabel was a faithful wife for 53 years to her high school sweetheart. Together they built a lifetime of memories. Her love for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren was endless.
Isabel was a devoted member of the women's prayer group and faithful choir member of St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church. She was a part of the St. Mary's women's prayer group and found peace and purpose in spending quiet hours with Our Lord in Adoration for many years. Anytime we needed her help, she would light a candle and say a special prayer. Isabel had a special line to the Lord.
She was a proud member of the Tate Alumni group meeting once a month for years. She was always thinking of Tate Cheerleaders and Color Guard as she was a proud Tate Cheerleader in 1950. She loved her Tate Aggies. A loyal Pittsburgh Steelers fan, a part of the 175 Bowling Club, loved playing bridge and sharing laughter with friends. But the one thing she loved the most was playing Scrabble with her boys! She was busy all the time. We had to check her calendar if we wanted to visit.
Isabel was a wonderful sister and a true friend to many. She was always a caring sister wanting to stay in contact with her sister, Estelle, and her brother, Brian. One special friend who cannot go without mention is Carol Groves. Carol was her true guardian angel. Thank you, Carol, for your true friendship.
A heartfelt thank you to Karissa Havard, whose tender care and unwavering love reflected God's grace in every moment. Her compassion and presence were true blessings to Isabel; Karissa guided me through 3 years of understanding dementia. Karissa and Daniel moved in with us sleeping on a mattress on the floor watching over mom 24 hours per day. And when Karissa was exhausted Daniel would take over. We cannot express how much we appreciate the love you both showed to Granny. Isabel's compassion, spirit, and devotion will forever live on in our hearts - she is now our guardian angel watching over us.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Marvin Newton Richards, Sr. and Mary Madeline Martin Richards; her husband, Kesler Alvie Summerlin; as well as her brothers, Marvin Newton Richards, Jr and Paul Edward Richards.
Survivors include her son, Errol Summerlin (Anna Maria) of Salisbury, MD; daughter, Marilyn Stefani (Steve) of Jay, FL; son, Mark Summerlin (Angela) of Ooltewah, TN; son, Karl Summerlin (Kathy) of Pensacola, FL; sister, Estelle Byrnes of Long Beach, CA; brother, Brian Richards (Linda) of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Brandi (Brad), Barbara (Doug), Errol (Natalya), Ryan, Kristopher, and Mary Elizabeth (Danny); great-grandchildren, Isabel (Rahim), Daniel (Karissa), Santino, Joshua, Sasha, Evan, Nyah, Michael, Hunter, and Abel; great-great-grandchildren, Naima and Sophia; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 9:30am until a Funeral Service begins at 10:30am Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, with Fr. Ray Ribeiro officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

The family would like to extend appreciation to VITAS Hospice for their compassionate care and support to Isabel. Most of all, a very special thank you to Darryl Gray, whose Friday visits with Isabel were filled with prayer, peace, and the comforting presence of the Lord. His faith and friendship brought light to her final days. He came to her side and prayed with her for the last week of her life. Thank you, Darryl, we love you.
