Dr. J. W. Andress, Veterinarian for over 50 years at the Animal Clinic across from Town and Country Plaza, husband of Sally Andress and father to eight children, died at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, February 14, 2015. "Doc" or "Andy" was a friend to everyone, many commenting he was "larger than life". A loving husband and father he was always there for his family. His wife and children will remember his jokes, his kindness, and his ability to make everyone feel special. Although 90 years old last October, he still enjoyed family gatherings, fishing at Steve's Farm, the opera and symphony, trips to Biloxi and traveling. A WWII veteran, he served in the Army Air Corps as a weather specialist. Upon returning home after the war, he attended Auburn University on the GI Bill. He graduated in 1952 and practiced veterinary medicine in Pensacola for a total of 55 years. He will be sorely missed by all his children; Nikki Dotter (Dick), Dondra Andress, Kathy Rutherford (Todd), Kenny Andress (Kathy), Cindy Calhoun (Martin), Tracy Badger (Gregg), Scott Andress (Memrie) and Jackie Holmes (Jon); his 21 grandchildren; his 17 great-grandchildren and his 1great great-grandchild. Visitation will be held at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel from 10am to 11am on Monday, February 23, 2015 with Funeral services beginning at 11am in the chapel with Pastor Franklin Gore officiating. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery with Army military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Escambia County Animal Shelter, 200 W.
