Obituary

Peter France, 73, of Pensacola, FL passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 after a hard fought battle with COPD. Peter was born on April 17, 1943 in Muskogee, OK to Robert and Marie France although he considered Natchez, MS his hometown.

Peter was a founding student of Eckerd College at the age of 16. His educational accolades were numerous and prestigious. After graduating Eckerd College, he pursued his post graduate studies in Slavic languages at Harvard University. Peter taught for a while before deciding to pursue a degree from Stetson Law School. He opened his practice in the 80's but eventually he left it to serve at the Office of the Public Defender where he retired from in 2011.

Peter's greatest passion, however, was his church, Pace Presbyterian. He taught Sunday school and faithfully played the organ or piano there every Sunday until he became unable to do so. It was his wish that Pace Presbyterian flourish and continue to serve the community after he went home to the Lord.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Marie France; his stepson, Brian Miller and niece, Laurel France.

Peter is survived by daughters; Ruth Marie Cason (Tim) of VA, Rebecca Whisnant (Gary) of NC, Abigail France (Andy) of Pensacola, FL and stepdaughter, Emily Miller of OH. Peter left behind grandchildren; Caitlyn Cason, Lena Cason, Ryain Miller, Wesley Miller, Taylor Whisnant and Bobby Pennebaker. He is also survived by his 3 beloved brothers; Mike France of CA, Tim France (Donna) of OH and Bruce France (Kermit) of LA. Peter leaves behind his love, Darlene Miller of KY and special friend, Kay Adams. He is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 2:00pm at Pace Presbyterian Church, 4587 Woodbine Rd., Pace, FL 32571, with a reception immediately following.
