Jack Donald Brown, 80, native of Pensacola, FL passed away Friday, March 23, 2012. Jack was raised in East Pensacola Heights and spent his life fishing and crabbing in the waters surrounding Pensacola. He had a distinguished career in the US Army and retired as a 1st Sergeant after 20 years of service. He served in the Korean Conflict, and two tours of duty in Vietnam. Jack was awarded three Bronze Stars for heroic service during his tour in Vietnam. Following the military, Jack worked as a tugboat captain at Brown Marine and retired after 20 years of service. He was a member of the Gulf Breeze Masonic Lodge, the Hadji Shrine and was a long time member of the Brownsville Baptist Church. His wife, Margie Wilene Brown, precedes him in death. Survivors include his two stepsons, Vurl Duce (Lois) and Jerry Duce; a stepdaughter, Suzanne Bruckmann (Peter); four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; as well as two brothers, Ed Bubba Brown and Tom Brown (Fay). Visitation will be held at 1:00 PM, and the funeral service at 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Dr. John Pavlus officiating. Burial will follow at Bayview Memorial Park with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5401 Corporate Woods Dr., Suite 100, Pensacola, FL 32504. The family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Sunnenberg and staff at Sacred Heart Oncology Center as well as the 2nd floor nurses at Sacred Heart Hospital and the Midway First Response Team. Jack was a man of great faith and had an unwavering love for his family and friends. His generosity and kindness, not to mention his penchant for fabulous storytelling, will be greatly missed. .. when your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way.
