Obituary

John Joseph "Jack" Gorman, 88, of Pensacola, FL passed away Friday, April 14, 2023.

Jack to all who knew him, he was married to his beloved wife Marie for 40 years. He had two children, John and Jennifer Gorman, whom he began raising on Staten Island. Following his retirement, he moved his family to Florida.

As a teen, Jack attended Curtis High School and enjoyed lifting weights and playing sports. He joined the Army in 1954 and again in 1958.  An infantryman, he earned the Marksman Badge with the M-1 Rifle and received advanced training in operating the Browning Automatic Rifle.

Following his years in the Army, Jack worked as a longshoreman on the waterfronts of New York City, especially Staten Island's Howland Hook Marine Terminal.  He was a longstanding member of the International Longshoremen's Association.

Following retirement as a longshoreman, Jack moved his family to Destin, Florida in 1992.  There he spent his time attending his children's many school and sporting events, riding his bike with his beloved dog Lassie running beside, and dining out with his wife.

Following his years on Florida's Panhandle, Jack and his family relocated to Ocoee in Central Florida.  He enjoyed being a guest with his family at Disney, Sea World, and Universal Studios while continuing to spend extra time riding his bike and walking his dogs.

In 2016, Jack came to reside in Pensacola, Florida.  When not dining out with family, he would be found assembling jigsaw puzzles in his puzzle room, shopping at favorite stores such as Publix, wading the waters of Bayview Dog Beach with his beloved pets, and donating to numerous charities.

Jack passed away in hospice at Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital with his son in attendance.

Born on Staten Island, New York to James and Gertrude Gorman, Jack is loved and missed by his brother, Robert Gorman and sister, Carol Gorman, as well as his extended family members in New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, and West Virginia.
