John "Jack" Allen Markle, 90, of Pensacola, FL passed away Thursday, March 4, 2021.
Jack was born November 5, 1930 in Hublersburg, PA. He graduated from State College Area High School in 1947. He joined the US Army in 1952 and served honorably in Korea, as a heavy weapons infantryman. He was ultimately discharged in 1954 as a Sergeant. He received many awards while in the Army including the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, and the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze service stars. After his time in the Army, he began working for Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania as a Telephone Systems Technician. Jack retired after 32 years with the telephone company on October 31, 1985. In 1986 Jack moved to Pensacola, FL. He became a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church, Faith Finders Class and Fishers of Men. Some of his hobbies were woodworking/carpentry, crossword puzzles, gardening, reading, country music, cougar convertibles, and being a handyman. Jack will be fondly remembered for giving out Hershey kisses and miniatures to his special friends and all those he encountered along his way.
He is preceded in death by parents, Grace Marion Weaver Markle and Hogan Irvin Markle and his brothers, Walter and Irvin.
Jack is survived by his spouse, Erma E. Gordon-Markle; sister, Joyce Buerk; daughters, Joyce Blackwelder (Billy), Jean Frank (Drew), and Jacqueline Markle; stepchildren, Steven Gordon and Sherri Kariotis; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a niece, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held 1:00pm until a Memorial Service begins at 2:00pm Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Keith Johnson and Rev. Connie Ragghianti.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, or The Alzheimer's Association.
Special thanks to Joan McLeod, his caregiver for eight years, for her care and devotion. His many medical service and caregiver workers, Pensacola VA Clinic staff and family and friends for their loving care and support.
