Obituary

Jajuania Judy Garrett lost her 14 month battle with cancer on Saturday, January 29, 2011. Judy was born on February 28, 1940 and spent her childhood in Eufaula, AL. She moved to Pensacola, FL with her husband in 1964 and has resided in Pensacola for the past 47 years. She was a retired school teacher who began her career in education as secretary to the superintendent of Barbour County schools. As she pursued her degree in elementary education she worked for several years with Mauldwin Jewelers. She was very involved at East Hill Baptist Church teaching Sunday School and active with her WMU Ladies. Jajuania was happily married to her husband, George, for 49 years and together they raised three children. During her fight with this disease her passion and strength were her 9 grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her mother, Nannie Belle Vinson Smith; father, Henry Bowman Smith; brothers, James Edward Smith and Earl Wayne Smith; and sister, Dorothy Smith Burnham. Survivors include her husband, George A. Garrett; daughters, Leigh G. Pyle (Clay) and Kim G. Rayburn (Bob); son, Gregory S. Garrett (Pam); grandchildren, Cameron, Brittany, Quint, Hunter, Abbey, Daylan, Ashley, Madison and Jacob; sister, Verna Williams of Atlanta and many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held 10:00 am until the Funeral Service to begin at 11:00 am Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Bayview Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Chip Henderson, Alan Miller, Jacob Miller Little Sunshine , Gary Foster, Ray Hinnant and Monty Ray. Honorary Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and WMU Ladies. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to East Hill Baptist Church, 3960 Spanish Trail, Pensacola, FL 32504 or to Covenant Hospice, 5041 N. 12th Ave., Pensacola, FL 32504. The family would like to thank all the health care professionals that have taken care of her for the last 14 months, especially the Oncology Center of Sacred Heart on Davis and Covenant Hospice of West Florida.
