Obituary

James Justice Hudgens, 90, a resident of Carpenters Creek Assisted Living, Pensacola and a beloved husband, father and grandfather passed on to eternal life on Friday, November 21, 2014 after an extended illness. James was born in Grand Bay, AL on January 15, 1924 and graduated from Murphy High School in Mobile, AL. He completed Midshipman school at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD and served in the US Navy for 13 years including both WWII, aboard the USS Straub and the Korean War, aboard the USS Cronin as a Lieutenant. He received a Chemical Engineering degree from Tulane University and a Master's degree from the University of Florida. James worked for Chemstrand and Monsanto for 32 years, retiring in Pensacola with his wife, the former Iris Adele Davidson of Mobile, AL. James was a man who loved his country, his church and his family and whose quiet faith and ever-present smile remain an inspiration to those who love him so much. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Dabner Hudgens and his mother, Nola Owensby Hudgens along with 5 brothers and 2 sisters. His survivors include his wife to whom he was married 68 yrs., Iris Davidson Hudgens of Pensacola; his children, Dave (Monica) Hudgens of Mountain Center, CA, Steve (Pam) Hudgens of Springfield, VA and Janet Hudgens (Rogers) Hornsby of Pensacola; 7 grandchildren, Michelle Hudgens of Alexandria, VA, Sean Hudgens of New Zealand, Laura Hudgens of Arlington, VA, Travis Hornsby of Devon, PA, Rachel Hudgens of Richmond, VA, Roy Hornsby of Orlando, FL and Dennis Hornsby, II of Gainesville, FL. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Monday, December 1, 2014 at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church with The Rev. Jessica Babcock, Associate Rector officiating. A reception will follow the sanctuary services and a graveside committal with Navy honors will begin at 12:30pm at Holy Cross Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dave Hudgens, Travis Hornsby, Roy Hornsby, Dennis Hornsby, Steve Hudgens, Michelle Hudgens, Laura Hudgens and Rachel Hudgens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 3200 N. 12th Ave., Pensacola, FL 32503 or the National Parkinson's Foundation, Gift Processing Center, P. O. Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018.
