"Oh I have slipped the surly bonds of earth and danced the sky on silver-coated wings, reached out my hand and touched the face of God." From "High Flight" by John Gillespie Magee, Jr.
Today, James Roger (Jim) Brown has rejoined his lost loved ones in Heaven.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Yvonne Armstrong Brown; his daughters, Michelle (Josh) David and Melody (Mike) Steeger; sisters, Charlotte (Tom) Pashke and Ethel (Mike) Brown; grandchildren, Shawn Steeger, Kaitlyn Steeger, Matthew Steeger, Nicholas David, Katherine David and Benjamin David; "adopted" daughter, Karen Pollard; "adopted" son, Don (Joyce) Norvelle and other loving family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Lucy Brown; his beloved son, Jason and his brother, Michael Brown.
He was born April 30, 1947 and before passing away December 6, 2015, he was blessed to have a life filled with love. He attended Blountstown High School where he met his wife Yvonne Brown. They married after graduation and he served his country as a pilot in Vietnam from 1970 -1971. He attained the rank of Captain before leaving the Army in 1972. He owned several different businesses over the years before working for Danco, BE&K Construction and Raytheon before he retired due to ill health.
He always had a smile on his face, a joke in his heart, a shoulder to cry on or a helping hand for anyone who needed assistance. He was happiest when surrounded by his family and loved working with his hands and creating things. He loved music and reading and shared that love with all his children and grandchildren. He was a wizard with his hands and could fix just about anything from a broken down car, a house repair or a broken heart needing advice. He played video games with his grandchildren, loved having fun with any new technology and was young at heart even though his illnesses were slowing him down.
He was a wonderful, loving man who taught us to be kind, have an open mind and to always remember that we were loved and special. He made the world a better place and we are greatly lessened by his loss.
Graveside services will be held at 12:30pm Friday, December 11, 2015 at Barrancas National Cemetery. Chaplain Ken Griffin will officiate with US Army military honors provided.
After the service, the family will be meeting at Ollie's Neighborhood Bar and Grill at 2:00pm.
