James John Mougey lived a life driven by an extraordinary mix of humility, energy, loyalty and intense love for family and others. His unwavering devotion to his family developed a commitment that continues in the lives of his children and grandchildren.

He began his career as superintendent of the Gayfers store here in Pensacola in January of 1978 and retired as a Realtor dedicating countless hours to many young couples who were buying their first home. His kindness and patience put the couple at ease knowing he cared about them being in the place God intended for them. Jim’s heart and happy place was with his family in their home on Cheltenham. He has been blessed with four children, his son Peter James, who is married to Katrina, and their three children, Peter James, Madison Alexandra, and Grace Paige, who is newly married to Graham Gruil; Daughter, Meegan Beth Lane, married to David and their children, Benton Eli and Clara Marie Lane; Daughter, Adrianne Stanley, who is married to Robert, and their three sons, William Chase, Harrison Gage and Carter Burke; Daughter, Alison Kathleen, married to Jason Dempsey, and their three children Jackson Hardy, who is engaged to Kate Telihard, Jayde Mougey and Jillian Oneal; And of course, all this started in 1967 with his marriage to Kathleen, after dating four years and Kathleen getting hit by a car on their first date. She spent 2 months in the hospital and Jim told everyone his mom made him marry her.

He loved the many celebrations of life, swim meets where he often served as lane judge, all the sacraments, graduations -preschool, kindergarten, grade school, high school, college, masters, law school, dental school and the endless plays with mini masquers. The many sporting events kept him buying CHS green and gold cards while traveling to away sports. He rarely got to see these games because he was ALWAYS recording it.

He spent hours swimming in the ocean, driving his Honda s2000 convertible, smoking a cigar, drinking an IPA; all of these spent with family in our dream location Pensacola Florida.

We are so grateful for the care of Dr’s Brent Videau, Janelle Bennett, Daniel Ballow and Surjai Patel. Thank you for the tender care of hospice nurses. Our hearts are so grateful to our care giver Laura Spellman, whose love and devotion kept us all peaceful.

Our family invites you to join us for a celebration of Jim’s life on Saturday, August 8, 2026, visitation beginning at 10:00 am with Eucharistic celebration of mass at 11:00 am, St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Gulf Breeze, FL. With Bishop Bill, Fr. Jon Cayer, Msgr. Luke Hunt, and Fr. Dennis O'Brien serving as celebrant. Following mass lunch will be served in the parish hall.
