IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Robert
Manara
May 19, 1922 – January 25, 2023
After 100 and a half beautiful years on Earth, on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, our beloved James Robert Manara has been called home.
James was born on May 19, 1922 to his loving parents, the late Charles and Natalie Righi Manara in Somerset, NJ. In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his loving wife, Iris Manara, after an extended illness in which he cared for her until her last days. Sadly, he is also preceded in death by his son, Robert and a sister, Joyce Heinrich.
James was a loving husband, father and grandfather, a true family man. He was a devoted member of The Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church. He met and married the love of his life, Iris, whom until his last days he spoke so highly of with love and respect. Together they had two sons, Keith and Robert, of whom he was so very proud of. He considered his boys the greatest accomplishment of his life and loved them dearly.
James proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps, having served during World War II. While serving he was offered a promotion which he declined and chose to retire and devote his time to raising his family.
He then worked for American Cyanamid for many years where he retired from his position of purchasing agent. He enjoyed providing for his family and was a truly hard-working man. He created PSC Senior Citizens Club, serving as president for 27 years until turning 90. He took a great deal of pride in his position and created a wonderful network of friends. James also enjoyed woodworking and creating special pieces to gift to his loved ones, as well as his weekly Rummikub game, and enjoyed going to lunch and trips to Biloxi. James lived his life with faith and integrity and was immediately loved by all who met him. He was kind, honest, intelligent, and fair. He will be truly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include, his son, Keith and his wife Cookie; his grandchildren, Micheal, Anthony, Jessica, Kim, Danielle, Nick, Christine, and their spouses; thirteen great-grandchildren; his special friend, Theresa; and so many others that loved him, cared for him, and spent their days checking in and spending time with him.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, with Deacon John Jacobs, officiating. A committal service will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery with Military honors being accorded by the United States Marine Corps.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Emerald Coast Hospice for the wonderful care given to their father.
