IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James "Bryan"
Mills
October 2, 1984 – June 19, 2016
James "Bryan" Mills was born in Birmingham. AL on October 2, 1984 and passed away on June 19, 2016.
A friend, Melody Burns, so eloquently wrote, "I imagine if you could have looked at the sky at the right moment you could have seen a psychedelic Technicolor comet flying in front of the strawberry moon on his way to heaven, hopefully glancing back once more to realize the profound effect his love and warmth had on so many of us."
Bryan was a very smart, gifted, talented, loving, artistic, musical, funny, accepting free spirit. He showed extreme artistic talent at an early age building extravagant Lego creations and intricate towns with tunnels in dirt and continued to express his talent through many mediums influenced by his beloved art teachers. Bryan was also a great swimmer, an amazing gardener and creator of amazingly tasty meals from his crops.
Bryan would bring friends home in high school, each one different from the next by their styles, likes, and interests. He had an open mind when it came to people, excepting of everyone. He had a big heart and loved his friends dearly. We admired him for that reason amongst others.
He was practically the king of "how to's and random facts. Bryan was very smart. He loved animals and showed it especially through his actions towards Layla.
He also loved nature and was always cleaning up our beaches and rivers.
He loved music and enjoyed playing old records, playing and collecting instruments, and going to music festivals and concerts with his brother Schuyler and his friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Charles Theo Bryan, Bob McLeod and Gene Mills; uncles, Chris Bryan and Kyle Mills.
Bryan is survived by his parents, Frank and Becky Lenox of Pensacola and Kevin Mills of Claremont, CA; sister, Mary Taylor Tew, husband Michael, brother Schuyler Mills, girlfriend Cassie Kohler of Pensacola; grandparents, Patricia B. McLeod of Diamondhead, MS Sandra Mills of Litchfield, OH, Jerry and Teresa Lenox of Pensacola, FL; and many other aunts, uncles and cousins in Homer, LA, Ashville, AL Litchfield, Ohio and Pensacola and Raychel Piatt whom he loved dearly.
Bryan has left a piece of his heart here on earth with so many of you. Please remember Bryan the Pirate, the barefoot wonder, and your friend when you needed one. The one who made you laugh! We pray for comfort for all who knew him as he has left us way too soon. Be safe and as Bryan always said "be good". Thank you for loving him. We know he is in heaven and will see him again. We hope you will too. We love you Bryan and will miss you so much. You were the light of our lives, Our son, our brother, our friend.
A little fighter who stood in his father's lap on his 2nd day. The boy who watched TV standing on his dad's shoulders. His 4th and 5th words were Benus and Mars learned cliff side, pointing into the clear October heavenly's, his mom asking "is that right?". The 10 month old boy who would fearlessly jumped off the dock into a dark lake. The coon skinned cap tyke who climbed fourteeners and braved tropical storms perched on the front of a canoe. The sculpturer who turned discarded building materials into a front yard storyboard. The one who had no fear... of heights, of hurricanes, snakes or sharks, no fear of what others thought. A man with an unnatural lack of fear of the unknown. He was thrilled with experiencing God's creation. He was a free spirit who loved life, was loyal to his own art. He struggled to make his way in the world, seeking to make it a better place with his love, laughter and his art.
Bryan knew Jesus as tolerant, loving, friend, Savior and Lord. He looked to Jesus' death and resurrection and not to his own works. He was definitely into challenging the religious and established authorities. He knew that not all that happens in this world is God's will or is part of His Kingdom. Bryan knew this world was not home but looked to effect it while he was here.
Lord, he loved you in his way. We know that you love Bryan more than we have. Thank you Lord for the times we had, we love you for that. Welcome him into your embrace. Enjoy him Lord, thrill him with your wonder, wipe away his tears, that he may dance in your presence for all eternity.
