James "Jim" Richard Mizell departed peacefully, surrounded by family, to return home to our Lord on Friday, June 14, 2024.

Jim graduated from Pensacola High School, and in 1954 he enlisted in the US Navy, working as an Aviation Electrician's Mate First Class. He was honorably discharged in 1964 attaining E6 Petty Officer First Class. He then joined the Naval Air Reworks Facility (NARF), on Pensacola NAS and continued to serve as a civilian for a further 25 years, retiring in 1990.

Jim was a man of God and involved in His church. If you knew Jim, then you knew how reserved he was. One might be surprised to know what a wonderful singing voice he had. He sang in the Sacred Heart Cathedral Choir and would practice the songs on his piano at home the week before the celebration of the Mass on Sunday. He would devote extra practice time with the choir to the Easter and Christmas celebrations.

Jim is preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Irene "Rene" Marie Mizell, married in 1973; granddaughter, Megan Amanda Geri; his parents, Jesse and Callie Mizell; as well as numerous brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his son, Fred Sartwell (Cindy); two daughters, Sharon Sartwell Harris (Mark) and Ann Marie Sartwell Telhiard (Chris); 5 grandchildren, Desiree Chestnut, Catherin Storey (Daniel), Brandon Smith (Ashley), Nathan Harris, and Kailen "Bob" Harris; as well as 5 great-grandchildren, Connor, Liam, Samantha, Jordan, and Evie.

Visitation will be held from 1:30pm until a Funeral Service begins at 2:30pm Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, with Fr. Dennis O'Brien officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery with military honors.
