James S. Rogers, 89, of Pensacola, FL passed away Sunday, November 18, 2012. He was born on March 22, 1923 to Sally and Lewis Rogers in Rockford, AL. He graduated from Sylacauga HS in 1941 where he met the love of his life, Louise Bateman. While in high school, he worked at the local drugstore. On May 30, 1941 James married Louise. With the beginning of WWII, James enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed in Pensacola, FL, where he served as a yeoman. After his term, he was honorably discharged and began his career in the automobile industry starting with his uncle WP Jones at Desoto Plymouth Dealership. He moved on to other dealerships in the Pensacola area, starting with the Chevrolet Dealership Pensacola Buggy Works. He managed the used car department there for over 25 years. After Buggy Works, he moved on to Toyota of Pensacola and ended his career with Jack Lee Buick where he retired. Throughout his career he was awarded many trips and recognition for his success in the automobile industry. He was often called into the courts as an expert witness for trials regarding automobiles. He was an active member of the Masons, Eastern Star and Shriners for many years. He attended and was a member of Warrington UMC where he served on the official board. He later moved his membership to Richards UMC where he continued his membership until his death. Throughout his life, he was an avid golfer. He acquired his love for the sport while working as a caddy at the Roebuck Country Club in Birmingham, AL. He is preceded in death by his parents; his older sister, Helen Davenport; his twin sister, Jane Gilliland and his wife of 66 years, Louise Bateman Rogers. Survivors include his daughter, Judith Pemberton; his sons, James Rogers (Marti) and Tom Rogers (Marichu); grandchildren, Michael Broeg (Kayla), Russ Pemberton (Sherry), Michele Broeg (Chris), Erica Maxwell (Phil), Laurie Shimp (Bill), James Rogers, Will Rogers, Gerald and Joy; as well as great-grandchildren, Andrew Pemberton, Kaitlynn Pemberton and Trevor Broeg; and a sister, Ann Dison (Gordon). Visitation will be held 2:30-4:00pm Sunday, November 25, 2012 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Funeral Service will be held 10:30am Monday, November 26, 2012 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Pastor Dennis Daniel officiating. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
