IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James "Jim"
W. Turek
May 5, 1933 – February 11, 2024
James "Jim" W. Turek, 90, of Pensacola, FL, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2024.
Jim was born to Lois and Charles Turek in Cleveland, OH, on May 5, 1933. He was a sweet, deeply spiritual person with a kind and loving heart. Jim received a BA in Sociology from Heidelberg College in Tiffin, OH, a liberal arts college focused on preparing students to attend seminary. After graduating, Jim attended Lancaster Seminary for one and a half years but decided that he could best serve God by helping and teaching others. So, Jim went into Presbyterian social work first at the Dodge House in Detroit, MI, where he met the love of his life, Linda, then at the Association Neighborhood House in Chicago. After moving to Pensacola with his bride, Linda, he decided to become a teacher and attended the University of Southern Mississippi to get the education courses needed to get his certification. This led to a fulfilling career as a high school history teacher at Escambia and then Woodham High School in Pensacola, FL.
Jim spent his free time as an assistant scout leader for his son's troop, biking and camping with his family, listening to music, reading, researching family genealogy, teaching Sunday school, and as an Elder at First Presbyterian Church. In his retirement, he volunteered in the genealogy section of the Pensacola Public Library. On top of that, he was a master of bad dad jokes.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Alice.
Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Linda; daughter, Kathy; his son, Tim (Suzy); grandchildren, Ben and Fiona; step-grandson, Trey; step-great granddaughter, Samantha; nephew, Jim; as well as nieces, Nancy and Susan.
