Obituary

James McCoy Waters, 86, of Pensacola, FL passed away Sunday, December 25, 2011. James Waters was born in Atmore, AL in 1925. He attended Atmore Elementary School and Escambia County High School until moving to Pensacola in 1940. While living in Pensacola he attended Pensacola High School where he was captain of the PHS football team in 1942. He graduated in 1943. James joined the Army Air Corp after graduation and served in World War II until 1945. He returned to Pensacola and married Alice Jean Zepp in 1947. They had two daughters, Lizabeth Elaine Maney (Mike) and Margaret Ann Feldman (Mike). He was employed by Armour and Company for 12 years before going to work at NAS Pensacola where he served as supervisor of the Ground Support Shop until retiring in 1985. In 1976 he and Jean moved to Clear Springs, AL. He was a very active and long time member of the United Methodist Church and was honored with a lifetime membership in the United Methodist Men for his service. He was active in the Treasure Forest Program of Alabama and served on the Forestry Planning Board of Baldwin County until he and Jean moved back to Pensacola from their farm in Clear Springs in 2004. He is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Lee Waters and Willie McCoy Waters; his two brothers, Lee Waters and Glenn Waters; his two sisters, Mary Will Waters and Peggy Waters Steele. Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Alice Jean Waters of Pensacola; his daughters, Lizabeth Elaine Maney (Mike) and Maggie Feldman (Mike) of Pensacola; his grandchildren, James Ryan Maney of Cantonment, FL, Megan Feldman of Atlanta, GA and LCpl Matthew Feldman of Camp Lejeune, NC; his great grandchildren, Tristan Putonti, Alex McCoy Maney and Lezlie Jean Maney; first cousins, Carlie Jean Holcombe, Marjorie Thompson and Lucy Lee Cunningham. A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 AM Friday, January 6, 2012 Cokesbury United Methodist Church, 9th Ave. campus, with pastors Clint McBroom and Connie Ragghianti officiating. Immediately after the service a reception will be held in the Atrium adjacent to the sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice or to Cokesbury United Methodist Church, 5725 N. 9th Ave., Pensacola, FL 32504. The family wishes to give special thanks to Martha Chambers for her dedicated service and for the delicious southern dishes she prepared that James so loved and to Dr. Chester Messick and Dr. Mark Larkins, our thanks for the exceptional care you provided to our beloved husband, father and grandfather.
