Obituary

James J. Williamson, 80, of Pensacola, FL passed away Friday, July 23, 2010. Mr. Williamson was born in Belfast, ME on October 11, 1929 to Samuel and Ann Waterhouse Williamson, a Navy family. His family moved back to their hometown of Tiverton, RI when Jim was six, after his father retired from the Navy. He graduated from De La Salle Academy in Newport, RI. He then received his Bachelors Degree from Providence College in Providence, RI and his Masters in Psychiatric Social Work from Boston College. He worked with emotionally disturbed children throughout his career and was director of various childrens social service agencies, amongst them Pressley Ridge, in Pittsburgh, PA, Bonnie Brae School in New Jersey and Nachusa Lutheran Home in Nachusa, IL. He was a national consultant for Child Welfare League of America during the 1970's. James was a devoted member of Grace Lutheran Church in Pensacola, and a long time volunteer for Covenant Hospice. He and wife Patricia were also active members of the Over 55 Dance Club in Pensacola. Jim was a member of the American Legion, the VFW and the Warrington Elks Lodge #2108. In his spare time he enjoyed golfing and swimming. James was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Bill and Sam. He is survived by Patricia, his loving wife of 54 years, a son Christopher (Barbara) of MD, a daughter, Joanne Williamson (Kurt Schnetzler) of HI, and daughter Karyn Williamson Coria (Carlos), and also by seven grandchildren and 14 nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at Barrancas National Cemetery, with Pastor Stephen Linck of Grace Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Barrancas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Covenant Hospice, 5041 N. 12th Ave., Pensacola, FL 32504. Special thanks to the wonderful and compassionate staff of Covenant Hospice, to all of our family and friends who showed how much they cared by their cards, calls and prayers, and to our wonderful neighbors and 'caterers,' Carla and Ernie.
