Jan Elizabeth Hartman Merchant, child of God, loving wife, mother and friend passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 16, 2022. She was a resident of Pensacola for over 86 years. Jan graduated from Pensacola High School in 1953, and worked at Pensacola Hardware where she met her husband-to-be.  Jan had planned to go to school to become a teacher, but she quickly abandoned those plans when she fell in love with Donnie, ready to follow him wherever his military service took him, and start a family. Once her children were in school, Jan worked for various doctors, and then found her calling, working as the financial secretary for Redeemer Lutheran School for the next 21 years.

Jan was a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, and the treasurer of the church's Lutheran Women's Missionary League.

Jan was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her. She is preceded in death by her son, Ronald Kirk Merchant ; her mom and dad, Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Hartman, and her beloved husband of 66 years, Don Merchant, who passed earlier this year.

Those left to cherish her memory includ e a son, Rusty Merchant; a daughter, Melanie J. Haveard (Mike) ; a brother, Charles Paul "Bubba" Hartman; many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins , grand-nieces and grand-nephews also survive.

A service to honor the life of Jan Elizabeth Hartman Merchant will be held at 11:00 a.m. , on Monday, August 22, 2022, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with Pastor Randy Blankschaen , officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.. A committal service will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.
