IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jane Maxine
Ferguson
July 18, 1939 – October 3, 2024
It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jane Maxine Ferguson on Thursday, October 3, 2024. She was 85 years old and lived her life with grace, dignity, integrity and courage.
Jane was an unwavering supporter of her loving husband, (Ret) Brigadier General Michael Lambert Ferguson, and played a crucial role in his career. She adapted well to the rigors of being a military wife and was always helping others along the way with leadership, morale boosts, friendship, showing up/getting dirty and even teaching etiquette. Her family moved many times, often living in a state for just a year or two before locating to the next duty station. She was extremely organized and could have an entire house packed and moved in a week. She was an interior decorator at heart. Even in cinderblock military quarters her home looked like it was in an Architectural Digest shoot. She also loved helping others decorate and showed them how to make a house a beautiful home. Her handmade quilts were exquisite and the pride of her husband who simply adored every little thing she did.
Jane was a woman of faith. She often drew inspiration from the words of Mother Teresa which echoed her own commitment to love and service. She worked with Mother Teresa in the Japanese Leper Colonies. Volunteers were instructed not to touch the patients but, if they touched one, they must touch them all. Jane embraced them all.
Jane was a firecracker and a proud, strong Irish/German woman from Buffalo, New York. She was the best hostess and always the life of the party. She was also the hardest worker around. She took pride in being strong and doing for others all the while laughing with that beautiful, contagious laugh of hers.
Jane is preceded in death by her loving husband of almost 60 years, (Ret) Brigadier General Michael Lambert Ferguson; her mother and father, George and Maxing Lang; and her twin brother, John F. Lang.
Her survivors include daughter, Michelle Ferguson-Cohen and husband Adiel Cohen; daughter, Cathy Ferguson; and son, Michael Jr. and his wife, Hege Ferguson. She also leaves behind three grandchildren, Elise and Connor Ferguson and Elle Cohen.
Visitation will be held 12:00pm until a Funeral Service begins at 1:00pm Friday, October 11, 2024, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Following the service, a funeral procession will depart Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel for a 2:00pm Graveside Committal at Barrancas National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the Brig. Gen. & Mrs. Michael L. Ferguson Scholarship for Military Veterans and Sons and Daughters of Military Veterans at University of West Florida.
