Jane Piercey Sergent, RN, 95, of Jacksonville, FL passed away quietly, holding hands with her husband, Wednesday, May 8, 2019.

Jane was born on December 3, 1923 in Jackson, TN. She grew up in New Albany, MS and spent most of her adult life in Lexington, KY before moving to Pensacola, FL. She earned her nursing degree from Nashville General Hospital and a BA in history from the University of Kentucky. She had an amazing professional career as a Cadet Nurse in WWII, flew in the back seat of a Piper Cub to provide care in the mountains of eastern Kentucky and worked in hospitals in central Kentucky. She cared for veterans at the VA hospital in Lexington for 24 years. After her retirement from the VA she worked with outpatient surgery patients until arthritis forced her to retire from practice at age 72. Her patients, her doctors and coworkers loved her. Above all she loved her family unconditionally. Jane was a caregiver of boundless kindness and a thrower of legendary parties. Janie P never met a stranger and her amazing Kentucky Derby parties at Chester Frost Park in Tennessee grew every year as new friends were drawn into her extended family. She loved life. We celebrate hers and will miss her dearly.

She is mourned but her memory cherished by her husband of 72 years, Lester; her son, Bob (wife, Marcia); grandson, Rob (wife, Sara); granddaughter, Kara (husband, Daniel); great-grandchildren, Alec, Mikell, Hayden, Madalyn, Preston, Wesley, Rhys and Sloane.

A celebration of her life will be held in Chattanooga, TN in June.
