Janice "Jan" Yvonne Hulbert, 93, passed away Thursday, December 3, 2015 in Pensacola, FL. She was born October 28, 1922 in Chicago, IL to Horace and Duella Hield. The family eventually moved from Chicago to Vero Beach, FL. In 1942, she married the love of her life, William Herbert "Herb" Hulbert who was from Pensacola, FL.
They moved to Pensacola, Herb's hometown, in the 1940's after he completed his service in the Army Air Corps.
They resided in Pensacola their entire lives. They were members of First United Methodist Church and Jan joined the United Methodist Women. Throughout her years, she served in many levels of leadership which included circle leader, Vice-President and President of her local unit. On the district level she served as President. On the conference level she served as Vice-President. She also served as Assistant Dean and Dean of the Cooperative School of Christian Mission which she attended every year until her health prevented her attendance. On the Southeastern Jurisdiction level, she served on the nominating committee and attended several assemblies throughout the years. She was sought after to teach mission studies in the Pensacola District and in her local church. Jan loved to study and was one of the favorite teachers in Sunday school. Because of her devotion to mission, she was instrumental in settling three (3) refugee families in the Pensacola area. Besides her extensive work in UMW, she taught piano to hundreds of children throughout the years in her home studio.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William Herbert Hulbert; daughter, Pamela Hulbert Dannelly and her grandson, William Christopher Dannelly.
She is survived by her family; Florence Royall, Rick (Pam) Hulbert, Alan (Sue Sumner) Hulbert, Bill Dannelly, Kathy Dannelly, Jeff (Jennifer) Dannelly, Bella Hulbert, Curt (Tracie) Hulbert, Elizabeth Ashley Farrow, Nick Hulbert, Rodger (Jennifer) Hulbert, Sara Jan Hulbert, Emerson Dannelly, Grayson Dannelly, Harper Dannelly and William Dannelly as well as nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Jan's life will be held Friday, December 11, 2015 at 11:00am at First United Methodist Church of Pensacola followed by a reception.
The family would also like to thank the numerous church members that looked after Jan in her final months and all the caregivers at Wesley Haven for their compassionate care.
