Jay Michael Donaway, 52, of Gulf Breeze, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, Monday, December 13, 2021, after a lengthy illness.

Jay was born in New York City but spent most of his life in Gulf Breeze, FL. He graduated from Gulf Breeze High School in 1987, where he played his favorite sport, football. He was an avid Yankee and Notre Dame fan who knew the full stats and history of the teams and players down to the last time they changed their underwear. His friends and family knew him as a kind, gentle man who was quick to listen without judgment and was always good for a laugh and a smile. Over the years, Jay worked in numerous restaurants and bars where he continued to be a trusted ear to many friends and strangers alike. Jay brought a great deal of joy to many over the years. He will be sorely missed.

He is preceded in death by his father, A. Jay Donaway; paternal grandparents, Charles and Helen Donaway; as well as maternal grandparents, Con and Mary Cronin.

He is survived by his mother, Patricia Worsnop; stepfather, Richard Worsnop; sisters, Hallie Willis, Rachael Donaway Silas, and Agnes Donaway; stepbrothers, and sister (by law), true brothers and sister by heart, Francis Worsnop, Shelton Worsnop, Fred Worsnop, and Evelyn Worsnop; numerous nieces, nephews, and countless family and friends whose lives will forever be better from knowing him.

Nate and Kathy Kozakiewicz: Jay and the family are eternally grateful to you for being there for Jay over the years. Your friendship and support kept Jay fighting and gave him the courage to keep going. You are amazing people; the world is a better place from you being in it. Jay loved you both so much.

Visitation will be held 10:00am until a Funeral Mass to begin at 11:00am Monday, December 20, 2021, at St. Sylvester's Catholic Church, 6464 Gulf Breeze Pkwy, Gulf Breeze FL 32563, with Fr. John Kelly celebrant. A reception will follow the services.
