Obituary

Obituary as written by Mrs. Jean Lambert Geeslin

I am Jean L. Geeslin, my husband Bill has been deceased since August 2009. My precious son, David died April 15, 2019 and I have missed him so much.

There are so many people to thank. I was raised in a Christian home. My daddy (bless his heart) walked 6 miles to work every day. He was very strict but taught me the basics for a good life. My parents taught all of us from childhood the importance of tithing. I asked my parents, "What is tithing?" Daddy said, "Give God 10% of your money for everything you earn." If you have 10 cents give him 1 cent. Remember, you cannot out give God. This impressed me and I have never forgotten it. I tithe to this day. Everyone older, black or white were to be addressed as "Mr." or "Mrs.". My daddy was a good man. There were 8 children and my mother. We lived on a farm in the country. Kennel Fairley, a good black man, oversaw the farm and we were always to obey him. My job was to cook his lunch for him every day, which I did. We all loved Kennel, he was like a member of the family.

I remember in the 8th grade, three boys and I were talking, and the teacher told us to be quiet, that worked for about two minutes and then we started talking again. After school, the principal told us that since we continued talking, our punishment was to memorize the 14th chapter of St. John and recite it to him in 2 weeks. This got my attention! I learned the 14th chapter of St. John and can recite it to this day. What wonderful punishment. I don't know what happened to that principal, but God directed him to do this to us. What a legacy!

Next, I want to thank Beth Gowing of my church for her many acts of kindness. She has taken me to the doctor so many times and I know God will bless her.

I want to thank Curtis Walker for helping me anytime I called him and to thank Quoc Vuong of my church each time I called him, and I must thank Willie Lee, my neighbor who has been a blessing to me. God will reward him I know.

When I think of God, He is so good to me. He has helped me every day of my life. I have been a member of First Baptist Church Pensacola for over 50 years. They are a bunch of good people. I often think of the precious ole souls that have gone on to glory. What a legacy they left. I want to thank Lois Kearley too. She has been a telephone friend, even though she is blind. There is little left of the eight children. My parents are deceased as well as my oldest brother, plus four sisters. Soon, I will join them. I have had a good life. God has been very good to me. I want to thank Kendall Kubik for her many acts of kindness to me, taking me to the doctor, getting my prescriptions filled and bringing me home. God will reward her I know. I also know I want to thank Vivian Joiner for coming to my home and cutting my hair once a month. She is a precious soul. I am at peace – I have had a good life.

Per my wishes, no services will be held, and I will be interred with my husband at Barrancas National Cemetery.
