Obituary

Jeanie A. Johnston, nee Testerman, 67, passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola, FL surrounded by her loving family. Jeanie was born in Abingdon, MD on June 14, 1949, the first of four daughters born to Joseph E. Testerman and Isabelle (Hemling) Testerman. She spent her childhood in the Edgewood, MD area where she was known as a fun-loving, friendly girl and developed her love of the water growing up along the shore of the Bush River and with many memorable trips to the ocean.

Jeanie moved to the Ocala area in 1987 and spent 25 years there working for the Department of Children and Families attaining the distinguished position of Family Safety Operations Manager within the central region before she retired. Jeanie had an exemplary work ethic and valued education. She was able to earn both her bachelors and master's degrees (with honors) while working full time and raising her two children as a single parent.

It was in the Ocala area that she met the love of her life, Hugh David Johnston, and they married on March 11, 2006. Her family and her wide circle of friends meant everything to Jeanie. She enjoyed crafting, travel and had a fierce love of sports—especially football and baseball. Jeanie was known and loved for her tenacity and compassionate, giving nature.

She is preceded in death by her father, Joseph E. Testerman and her son, Joseph Henry Kittel.

Those who remain and will forever cherish her memory; her husband, Hugh David Johnston; daughter, Mari Palmatier; son-in-law, Bill Palmatier; grandchildren, Liam and Chloe Palmatier; mother, Isabelle Testerman; sisters, Jody Rush, Karen Nezi and Linda Mahone; brother-in-laws, Joseph Rush and Eric Mahone; nieces, Andrea Pomilla, JoAnna Rush, Taylor Mahone and Spenser Nezi plus countless friends that felt like family to her.
