Jeanne H. C. Day, 78, of Pensacola, passed into Glory on Friday September 6 th . She was born in Lansing MI on February 22, 1941 to LoElla and T R Martin who preceded her in death. Her Brother Robert E. L. Martin lives in Riverside CA. Throughout her life she lived in Silver Spring MD; Buenos Aries, Argentina; Knob Noster MO; Anchorage AK; Seaford DE; Dover DE; Warner Robins GA; Panama City FL and in 2005, Pensacola FL.
She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, Pensacola, where she was a Sunday School Teacher and very active on their Prayer Chain. She had a passion for teaching children about Christ and his love for them. In Panama City, she shared her love with 22 foster babies and proudly turned them over to their new parents; baptized and sleeping through the night. At two different churches, she was instrumental in starting Playgroups where mothers and children got together for fun and fellowship. Through her mentoring, many mothers learned the finer points of mothering and in some cases relieved marital tensions. One group is still going after 30 years. She is also known for her ministries in sending birthday, get well, and sympathy cards to parishioners.
Jeanne graduated from Northwood High School, Silver Spring MD and attended The University of Maryland for two years. During Freshman orientation she met her future husband, Alvin L. Day. They married in 1961 and celebrated their 58 th wedding anniversary this year. She is survived by her husband and seven children, Julia Sammons, Dover DE; Robert Day, Warner Robins GA; David Day, Fitzgerald GA; Marcie Whitney, Pensacola FL; Laurie Parker, Jupiter FL; Stephen Day, Panama City FL and John Day, Plantation FL; and ten grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at 10:00am with a Service at 11:00am on Wednesday September 11 th at Grace Lutheran Church, 6601 North 9th Ave. Pensacola FL. Burial will be at Barrancas National Cemetery at 1:00pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 6601 N. 9 th Ave., Pensacola FL 32504 or St Jude's Children's Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 USA. Jeanne has been a lifelong supporter of the hospital.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the oncology floor of Sacred Heart Hospital and the staff of Covenant Care for the outstanding care they gave Jeanne during her time there.
