Obituary

Jeanne Patricia Gedney (nee Conroy), 94, entered eternal life on Ash Wednesday, March 5, 2025. Jeanne was the cherished wife of George Gedney Jr. Together they were looking forward to celebrating their seventy-year marriage this July.

Jeanne was born April 3, 1930, in Brockton, MA, to the late John Conroy and Helen Conroy (née Richards), the youngest of five now deceased siblings, Frank Conroy, John Conroy, Helen Conroy, and Rosemary Corcoran. Jeanne graduated from Brockton High School in 1947, where she was a cheerleader and excellent student. She graduated from Quincy City Hospital School of Nursing, Quincy Massachusetts, and as a Registered Nurse worked at Boston Children's Hospital, MA General Hospital, and Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, New York City. She then commissioned into the Navy Nurse Corps where she served in Memphis, TN, Providence, RI, and Great Lakes, MI. Providence is where she met and married George, a fellow Navy Lieutenant, in July 1955.

This was the beginning of their great adventure of married and family life in the Navy and beyond, which took the family to many homes including Virginia Beach, VA, Pensacola, FL, Whidbey Island, WA, and Monterey, CA. Finally settling in Pensacola, they raised their six children to adulthood and lived a full life, marked by strong friendships and ties to the community.

Jeanne continued to work periodically as a Registered Nurse at Sacred Heart and West Florida Hospitals and for local physicians. She maintained her nursing license in her later years, attending continuing education courses and volunteering at Sacred Heart Hospital with the Mother Seton Guild for over twenty years. She was an active member of the Gulf Coast Navy Nurse Corps Association, a treasured connection to her calling.

A lifelong and faithful Catholic, Jeanne was a parishioner at Little Flower and Saint Paul's Parishes and was a member of the Saint Augustine Circle, Seniors on the Go, and other parish apostolates. A strong supporter of Catholic education, Jeanne ensured her own children attended Little Flower and Pensacola Catholic High School and volunteered there through the years in a variety of endeavors.

Jeanne's greatest calling was being wife and mother of six children: George Gedney III (Rita), Mark Gedney, John Gedney (Robyn), James Gedney, Mary Gelbach (Doug) and Peter Gedney (Cynthia). Adored grandmother of Daniel Gedney (Courtney), Kaitlin Gedney Thomas (Jay), Ryan Gedney, Lee Gedney Kinnebrew (Neil), Brennan Gedney, Patrick Gelbach (Reniah), Max Gelbach, Aidan Gelbach Bray (Sam), Margaux Gelbach, Finnian Gelbach, and Christopher Neal.

Finally, she is great grandmother of Hugh and Graham Gedney; Shepherd and Fletcher Thomas; Archie Kinnebrew; Claire, Luke, and James Gelbach; Zoe Bray; Shep and Wells Neal; and two more on the way. She was a loving aunt and cousin to numerous nieces, nephews, and their children. She enters eternity with a beautiful legacy of faith, family, and service.
