Obituary

On June 15, 2022, the world lost some of its rhythm when Jeffrey Ward Rahn passed away at the age of 56.  Born in Honolulu and raised in Pensacola, Jeff was a staple of the Pensacola Beach surfing scene during the early eighties.  He was also well known and respected for his musical talents. He played in several local bands, including The Unemployed, Instant Amnesia, and Earl's Killer Squirrel.

He enjoyed art, music, surfing, and skating. He was passionate about the joy, individual expression, and fellowship that music brought to his life and the lives of others.  His musical talents were put to good use in such iconic Pensacola landmarks as Trader Jon's and Sluggos, where he and his dear friends and bandmates could be found banging out a punk beat that was the soundtrack of the eighties.

Known for his sense of humor and pre-gig jitters, Jeff always lightened up a room. Jeff graduated from Woodham High School in 1983 and earned his living working at his other great passion, cooking.

In 2016, Jeff married Sheldon Brinson.  After a high school romance, the two found each other again and remained together until his passing.  His entire extended family merged easily with the Mims clan, where no gathering is ever small.  He loved playing drums to accompany his stepson, John Brinson, on guitar (and sometimes vice versa - Jeff was no slouch on guitar) and enjoyed spending time with his stepdaughter, Alisha Schang (Zach), and grandson, Rex Schang.

Jeff was deeply faithful and will always be remembered for his humble and giving nature. His passing reminds us all that our time on Earth is brief, and that our family, friends, passions and creations are our only enduring legacies.  In that regard, Jeff is never gone, but is still with us in our hearts and memories.

Jeff is preceded in death by his father, John Quarterman Rahn and his mother Marjorie Sue Rahn.  He is survived by his wife, Sheldon (Mims) Brinson; brother, John Rahn (Ina); sisters, Tammy Cooper (Gary) and Nancy Virden (Scott); many nieces and nephews also survive.

A memorial service for Jeff is scheduled for 11:00 A.M. on Monday, June 27, 2022 at Holy Cross Episcopal Church, 7979 North 9th Avenue, Pensacola FL 32514.
