Jennie Delores Backus (Jean), 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday March 8, 2015 in Pensacola, FL after a brief illness. A devoted and beloved grandmother, mother, wife, sister, aunt and friend, Jean always extended a helping hand and guidance. A native of Ohio, Jean spent much of her career with the CPA firm of Deloitte Touche in Akron, OH and was actively involved in many civic and neighborhood organizations. After retirement, Jean moved to Brooksville, FL with her loving husband Don and continued her civic and community efforts. Since 2006, Jean has been a resident of Pensacola, FL. She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Backus and sisters, Mable, Gladys, Fay, Elizabeth and Lucille. Jean is survived by her son, Donald Thomas Backus (Theresa) of Pensacola; grandchildren, Christine Backus of Pensacola, Kelly Bradley (Colby) of Atlanta, GA and Tyler Backus of Athens, GA, along with many nephews and nieces. Special thanks to the staff and nurses at Homestead Village-Florida and Emerald Coast Hospice for the loving care extended to Jean and her family. The family will receive guests and friends at 1:30pm until the Memorial Service to begin at 2:00pm Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. A final committal will take place at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Lung Association or Emerald Coast Hospice.
