IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jerry
Mock
November 21, 1947 – July 17, 2022
Gerald "Jerry" Mock passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at the age of 74.
Jerry was a life-long resident of Pensacola and graduated from Escambia High School. He also attended Pensacola Junior College where he was a member of the DKA fraternity. His college education was interrupted when he was drafted in the Army during the Vietnam war era and served in the Pentagon. Afterwards he returned to Pensacola and attended the University of West Florida where he was one of the founders of the Florida Sigma Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and was a cornerstone of the brotherhood for the past fifty years.
Jerry was an auto glass salesman for over 30 years and later worked in the insurance industry. His outgoing personality was well-suited for sales and was known by his customers for his colorful ties and Hawaiian shirts. In his spare time Jerry was a master griller and loved to compete in chili and gumbo cook-offs. He was a long-time volunteer at Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen and fed numerous friends and customers at his cookouts.
Jerry served as District Governor of Sertoma. He was also a member of Five Flags Rotary and served as "Mr. Sunshine," kicking the meetings off with his humor and many laughs, both appropriate and non-appropriate. He also proudly served on the board of the Rehab Institute for a number of years. Jerry served as an elder in the Presbyterian Church and was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Marian Eugenia McGill Mock and John Everitt Mock, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Annise; daughter, Alana Hamblin (Brad); sisters, Jane Chappell (Alan) and Kim Kelly; grandson, Murphy Hamblin and several other family members.
As one of his beloved SAE brothers stated, "Jerry Mock passed into Chapter Eternal. He warmed our hearts with his kind and gentle spirit, entertained us with his limericks and funny stories, and he literally fed thousands with his culinary efforts." In his memory, wear a wild tie and Hawaiian shirt, loud clothes, laugh a lot, eat good food and love one another.
