Gerald "Jerry" Spraggins, passed away on Friday, January 7, 2022.
He was born in Houston, TX on October 13, 1939, to the late Henry J. and Estalea Spraggins. As a young man he joined the US Air Force, serving in Lubbock, TX, Japan, and Vietnam. After leaving the Air Force he began his college education at Methodist Hospital Dallas School of Nursing. He then became a Naval Officer and attended George Washington University and upon graduation became a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist serving in Navy hospitals and aboard ship, the USS Independence. He received his master's degree from Troy State University. Following his Navy career, he became an Assistant Professor of Anesthesia at the Medical College of Virginia and later moved to Pensacola working and retiring from West Florida Hospital. His favorite hobby after retirement was playing golf and living in a golf course community in Brevard, NC. Gerald was very loved by his wife, Barbara, and daughters Shelley and Valerie.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara J. Spraggins; his daughters, Shelley Spraggins Campbell and Valerie Spraggins Britt; his grandchildren, Christopher Campbell, Brandon Campbell, Rachael Campbell Russell (Alex), Emily Britt Weaver (Chris) and Katie Britt; his brother, Terry Spraggins (Pat); his niece, Tisha Spraggins and is nephew, Todd Spraggins (Sara); his sisters-in-law, Judy Gorham and Terri Eason; He is also survived by his dear friend, Terry Roy; his Godson, Christopher Roy; and his Goddaughter, Dawn Stolte. The family would like to thank all the caregivers who helped him especially Gwendolyn Eubanks.
Memorial service will be held 2:00pm Friday, January 14, 2022, at Grace Lutheran Church where he was a longtime member.
