Jewell C. Niesen, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on July 16 th , 2020. She passed away amongst the comfort of her family at the age of 88 from complications of Covid-19.
Jewell was born on February 27, 1932 in Pensacola, Florida. Her mother was Mary Joseph McCluskey and her father was Benjamin McCluskey. She was the youngest of six siblings: Jack Earp, Francis (Red), Benjamin(Benny), Margaret, and Patrick McCluskey. Jewell graduated from Catholic High School in the Class of 1950. Jewell married Paul William Niesen on February 2 nd , 1952 in California. They honeymooned in San Juan Capistrano where her favorite memory was feeding the swallows with her new husband. Over the next 26+ years as a Marine wife and mother of seven Jewell showed her many strengths and unconditional love. After their retirement from the Marine Corps, Jewell and Paul traveled throughout the United State and across the world on planes, trains, motorcycles, and RVs. Suffering the loss of Paul in 1990 was a difficult time for the family but again Jewell showed her amazing faith and strength though it all. Jewell continued to lead the family, travel and share her faith and kindness to everyone over the rest of her years.
Jewell is survived by all her children and their spouses: Kathleen(Denise), Stephen(Patricia), Michael(Susan), Patrick, Donald(Lane), Vincent(Amanda), and Margaret(Derrell). She is also survived by her grandchildren, their spouses, and great grandchildren: Michael Abraham and Briley Niesen / Virginia, Marcelo, Giovanni, and Marcelo II Cascaes and Evelyn Carlton / Paul and Katie Niesen / Katherine, John, Jack, Ava, Elizabeth, and Donald Kabbord / Andrew Niesen / Christopher Niesen / Meghan Niesen /John Paul Niesen / Amanda and Robert Pettit / Matthew, Allison, and Edward Niesen / William Diamond. Jewell was predeceased by her husband Paul William Niesen, all of her siblings, her parents, and her son-in-law Edgar W. Diamond Jr.
A memorial mass will be held at on Friday February 25, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. at The Lady of Loretto Chapel, located in the west wing of the Naval Aviation Memorial Chapel complex, with Fr. Peter McLaughlin, celebrant. Committal service to follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the front gate of NAS at 12:45pm to be led in procession to the chapel. We will be lining up inside the gate to the right waiting for base escorts to lead us to the chapel.
